Radical transparency
At Mbrella, we believe in radical transparency. As a result, we have no problem sharing our salary grid. It also makes it clear that we don’t negotiate salaries. It’s a matter of equality. Everyone in the same role at the same level with the same experience is paid the same. Equal work, equal pay.
How it works
We assess new hires on a scale that goes from A (intern) to K (you’re the best in your field, like Steve Jobs ❤️ ) and based on professional experience. We use the same scale when someone is in line for promotion. Every employee, new or old, fits into a level on the scale, and there is a salary pegged to each level role.
We regularly review market rates and issue raises automatically. Our target is to pay everyone at the company at the top 10 percent of the market regardless of their role.
What (not) to expect
Ah, also. We don’t have bonus or variable salaries. Why? We find that they are quickly treated as expected salary anyway, and it does not correctly reflect the team effort. Our friends of Alan also describe the same here.
